With McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate, an historic election is assured. In the White House our country will have either the first black man as President or the first woman (of any race) as VP. In a world where women are still belittled and marginalized and not allowed to lead (in [...]

I just watched a little history. What an awesome thing that the USA can go from a divided black-white-racist country (as my family is amazed at when we watch the movie Hairspray) to one where a black man has accepted the Democratic nomination to be the President of the United States. Incredible. What a wonderful [...]

On Sunday I showed the animated short Boundin‘ (it is on The Incredibles DVD – it can also be seen on youtube or purchased for $1.99 on iTunes). What I failed to do was discuss (at any length) how that short had anything to do with our topic at hand: mercy.

I went to a King’s X concert a few days ago with two good friends. We’ve been to over ten of these shows and this was the best sounding one yet (though it was far too short). They played several new songs (from XV) and many older ones (including We Were Born to [...]

I just finished reading Silas Marner. I had heard that it has been hailed as ‘one of the greatest books in the English language’ (or some such praise) so I was eager to read. At first it did not seem so great. The characters are described in some detail and the plot [...]

A few weeks ago I went fishing in the White Mountains of Arizona with my dad and two of my younger brothers. While in my float tube on Crescent Lake, I experienced a (really!) good moment:
I just hooked a fish (on a fly I tied with a rod I built) and the fish is [...]

This is a little story I recently heard from my new friend Graham. It is so good, that I thought I’d share it with you:
A boat docked in a tiny Mexicn village. An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them.
“Not [...]
